Mat Johns is a freelance writer, director, cam op / DP and editor based in Manchester, UK. Mat's narrative films have been selected by film festivals around the world as well as being featured on film websites such as shortoftheweek.com. Mat's latest film is a BFI funded short called INERTIA which begins its festival run in summer 2021.
Mat wrote & directed the award-winning short A Father's Day, funded by Creative England & BFI.NETWORK. The film was selected by over 140 film festivals, including BAFTA-qualifying festivals Encounters, Leeds, Brest, Sydney and London Short Film Festival, and some of the top horror festivals in the world including Screamfest, Fantasporto and Sacramento. A Father's Day has since been released online via shortoftheweek.com and was later selected by Gunpowder & Sky's ALTER platform with over 3.5 million views so far. Mat is currently developing a slate of feature films.
In a freelance capacity, Mat has worked with clients including the BBC, Art's Council England, Creative England and The Warehouse Project. Mat develops & delivers a wide range of content, and whether it's a work of fiction, documentary, promotional / corporate, music video or a showreel, he aims to produce film projects that are cinematic and story-focused. With the equipment to shoot and deliver projects in HD to 6K resolution, Mat creates client-specific content at competitive rates.
